Gold Rate Today in Kozhikode

Track today's gold rate in Kozhikode for 24K, 22K, 18K and 14K gold, updated daily against national bullion benchmarks and shown per gram and per pavan.

Today's gold rate in Kozhikode for 24 karat, 22 karat, 18 karat and 14 karat gold is shown in the live table above, updated every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. Every figure is a bullion reference rate for the metal alone and excludes making charges, wastage, GST and stone value.

Kozhikode is not where the rate is set. Historically known as Calicut, a medieval spice trading port that drew Vasco da Gama to its shores in 1498 and gave the world the word calico, the city remains the commercial capital of Malabar and one of Kerala's most gold-hungry markets, with demand heavily shaped by remittances from its large Gulf expatriate community. The city sources its bullion largely in step with Kochi and Thrissur, the state's main jewellery hubs, and its rate tracks the national reference closely with only a modest local premium. This page covers how the rate is set, purity and hallmark verification, a worked bill example, where to buy and sell, the buying calendar, taxation and a 15 question FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gold Rate in Kozhikode

What is the 22K gold rate in Kozhikode today?

The 22 karat, or 916, gold rate in Kozhikode today is shown per gram and per pavan, 8 grams, in the live table at the top of this page, refreshed every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. It excludes making charges, wastage, GST and stone value.

What is the 24K gold rate in Kozhikode today?

The 24 karat, 99.9 percent pure, gold rate in Kozhikode today is shown alongside 22K, 18K and 14K in the live table above. 24K is the benchmark rate used for coins and bars, not typical jewellery.

What is a pavan, and how many grams is it?

A pavan is the traditional gold weight unit used across Kerala, equal to 8 grams. It is different from the 10 gram tola used in most of North India, so always confirm which unit a quoted rate refers to when comparing prices.

What is the making charge for gold jewellery in Kozhikode?

Making charges in Kozhikode typically range from 6 percent at a competitively priced Mittai Theruvu retailer to 25 percent or more for fine handcrafted bridal work, on top of the gold value, before 3 percent GST. Kozhikode's dense retail competition tends to keep making charges toward the lower end nationally.

How much GST is charged on gold jewellery in Kozhikode?

3 percent GST applies to the combined value of gold and making charges on most retail jewellery invoices in Kozhikode, billed as a composite supply.

How do I verify a hallmark on gold bought in Kozhikode?

Check for the BIS triangle mark, the purity number such as 916, and the 6 character HUID stamped on the piece, then verify the HUID against the BIS Care app to confirm it matches a registered piece.

Where can I get gold tested for purity in Kozhikode?

BIS registered Assaying and Hallmarking Centres serving Kozhikode can test any piece independently of where it was bought. Use the BIS Care app to locate the nearest registered centre.

Why does Kerala use pavan instead of tola?

The pavan is a historical Kerala weight measure that predates standardisation with North Indian units, and it has simply remained the customary trading unit across the state's jewellery market, much as the tola persisted in the north and the bhari in the east.

Does Lucira have an Experience Centre in Kozhikode?

No. Lucira's Experience Centres are currently in Mumbai, Pune and the Delhi NCR area. Kozhikode buyers can shop online, with a 15 day return window covering the in hand inspection a showroom would otherwise provide.

When is the best time to buy gold in Kozhikode?

Akshaya Tritiya and Onam are the two biggest buying windows in Kerala, though both often carry elevated premiums due to high demand. For a planned purchase like a wedding, buying gradually over several months rather than waiting for a specific date usually works out better.

Can I sell my gold back to a jeweller in Kozhikode at today's rate?

Most Kozhikode jewellers buy back gold at a percentage of the day's rate, deducting a margin. Always get the offered rate and deduction confirmed in writing before agreeing to sell. Lucira offers a 90 percent buyback on gold value regardless of purchase location.

Is gold a good investment compared to a gold loan against it?

These serve different purposes. Holding gold is a savings and investment decision. A gold loan uses existing gold as collateral for short term liquidity, at lower interest than an unsecured personal loan, but risks the pledged jewellery if you default. Kerala has one of India's densest gold loan networks.

How much gold can a family legally hold in Kozhikode?

CBDT guidelines set indicative limits without requiring source proof at 500 grams for a married woman, 250 grams for an unmarried woman and 100 grams for a man, per family member. These are tax scrutiny thresholds, not a hard legal cap, and holding more is fine with proper documentation.

Why does Kerala hold so much gold compared to other Indian states?

Decades of Gulf remittance income, a strong cultural preference for 22 karat jewellery, and widely used gold savings schemes have combined to give Kerala, including Kozhikode, some of the highest per-capita gold holdings in India.

What is the platinum rate in Kozhikode today?

Platinum trades on a separate benchmark from gold. See the Kozhikode platinum rate page for today's live platinum price per gram.
