Today Gold Rate in Amravati – 7 Nov 2026, 2 AM IST

The table at the top of this page shows today's gold rate in Amravati for 24 karat, 22 karat, 18 karat and 14 karat gold, per gram and per 10 grams, refreshed every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. Every figure is a bullion reference rate for the metal alone. It excludes making charges, wastage, GST and stone value.

Amravati, in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and roughly 150 kilometres west of Nagpur, is the market town for a cotton, soybean and orange growing belt. This page covers Amravati in Maharashtra, not Amaravati, the capital region of Andhra Pradesh, which has its own page. What a shop here charges reflects the national benchmark plus a modest local premium, and the sections below explain how to turn that benchmark into the figure on your bill.

The weight table converts today's per gram rate into the denominations Amravati buyers actually transact in, from a single gram through 8 grams, 10 grams and 100 grams up to a kilogram, for each karat.

Most jewellery here is bought by piece weight, typically 5 to 50 grams for chains, bangles and sets, while coins are priced from a gram upward. The per 10 gram line is the figure most households quote in conversation. Every figure in the table is the gold value alone, and a finished piece adds making charges and GST on top.

A single day's rate tells you little on its own. The last ten trading sessions show whether today's price sits at the top of a run, the bottom of a pullback or in the middle of a flat stretch.

Use the table to see direction rather than to time the market. Daily moves are usually small, and a household buying for a wedding on a fixed date gains little by waiting for a better day. Where the date is flexible, a quick look at the recent range helps you avoid buying on a spike.

The trend table sets today's rate against its opening and closing values over seven days, 30 days and 12 months. Over the longer windows the picture is shaped by interest rate expectations, the strength of the dollar, central bank buying and the rupee, rather than by anything local to Amravati.

Past movement is not a forecast. Treat the table as context for a decision you were already planning, not as a signal to buy or sell.

The long range table lists year end gold prices across roughly the last decade. It shows how far the metal has moved over periods long enough to cover several cycles, which is a more honest guide to its behaviour than any single month.

Gold has risen over most multi year stretches in rupee terms, helped by a weaker rupee, but it has also gone through long flat or falling periods. A household that bought only at festival peaks did less well than one that bought in small amounts through the year, which section 35 returns to.

Gold is priced internationally in US dollars per troy ounce. That price is converted at the prevailing dollar to rupee exchange rate, and import duty and GST are layered on to arrive at the Indian bullion price. The IBJA and MCX benchmarks capture that figure each business day, and the rate on this page is derived from them.

Amravati jewellers receive gold through supply chains that run from Mumbai and Nagpur, which effectively set the retail benchmark each morning. A small local premium is added for handling and demand. Where one shop quotes noticeably lower than another, the gap usually sits in the making charge rather than in the metal.

Day to day, the international gold price responds to US interest rate expectations, the strength of the dollar, geopolitical tension and flows into gold funds. The rupee's exchange rate and any change in Indian import duty then move the local price on top of that.

Locally, demand lifts premiums around Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras and the winter wedding season, though the effect on the benchmark rate itself is small. What an Amravati buyer feels most is the making charge, which shops are more willing to trim in quiet weeks.

Gold supply grows slowly. Mine output is broadly flat from year to year, and recycled gold from old jewellery makes up a large further share, rising when prices are high and households sell. Central bank buying has become a significant source of demand in recent years.

India imports almost all of the gold it consumes, so its price is tied to world supply and to the rupee. None of this changes the practical advice for an Amravati household, which is to buy for a purpose and in amounts you can hold comfortably, rather than to guess the direction of the market.

Nobody can say reliably, and forecasts that sound confident usually are not. Gold has fallen sharply in some years and risen strongly in others, and the factors behind it, interest rates, the dollar and world events, are the same ones that make any forecast unreliable.

A useful way to decide is to separate need from speculation. If you need gold for a wedding on a fixed date, buy within your plan and spread the purchase if the amount is large. If you are buying as a store of value, buy in instalments over months rather than in one lump. Both approaches protect you from the cost of guessing wrongly.

916 is the hallmark number for 22 karat gold. It means the piece is 91.6 percent pure gold, which is 22 parts in 24, with the remainder made up of copper, silver or zinc that gives the metal strength. Almost all everyday jewellery in Amravati, from mangalsutras to bangles and chains, is made in 22 karat because pure gold is too soft to hold a shape or a setting.

Other common marks are 999 for 24 karat, 750 for 18 karat and 585 for 14 karat. Since hallmarking became mandatory, a genuine 22 karat piece should carry the BIS mark, the purity mark 916 and a six character HUID code. Section 15 explains how to check all three.

24 karat means 24 parts out of 24 are gold, which in practice is 99.9 percent pure and marked 999. This is the form in which gold is traded as bullion, and the rate quoted at the top of this page for 24 karat is the base from which every other purity is derived.

It is also soft enough to be bent by hand, which is why it is sold mainly as coins, bars and biscuits rather than worn as jewellery. If a shop shows you a 24 karat chain or bangle intended for daily wear, ask how it is held together and what it will look like after a year of use.

Jewellers here quote making charges either as a percentage of gold value or as a flat figure per gram, and across the trade the percentage range runs from around 8 percent on plain machine made pieces to 25 percent or more on fine traditional work. That is the largest variable in what you pay and the only one genuinely open to negotiation.

Convert the two conventions before comparing

Divide the per gram figure by the gold rate per gram. At an illustrative 13,000 rupees per gram, 400 rupees per gram is roughly 3 percent and 900 rupees is roughly 7 percent. Ask which basis a shop is using, and ask separately whether wastage is a distinct line.

A worked example, line by line

The figures use an illustrative 22 karat rate of 13,000 rupees per gram purely to keep the arithmetic readable. Substitute today's actual rate. The piece is a 20 gram 22 karat chain at 12 percent making.

• Gold value | 20 grams at 13,000 per gram | 2,60,000 rupees
• Making charges | 12 percent of gold value | 31,200 rupees
• Subtotal before tax | 2,91,200 rupees
• GST | 3 percent on the subtotal | 8,736 rupees
• Hallmarking | per piece charge plus tax | approximately 45 rupees
• Final billed amount | approximately 2,99,981 rupees

The same 20 grams across the range comes to approximately 2,89,254 rupees at 8 percent plain machine made, 2,99,981 at 12 percent standard work, 3,16,048 at 18 percent worked traditional and 3,34,795 at 25 percent fine handwork. Roughly 45,000 rupees separates top and bottom on identical metal, decided entirely by which counter you stand at.

How GST is applied

In most retail invoices the jewellery is billed as a composite supply and 3 percent GST is charged on the combined value of gold and making. Where making is billed separately as job work, 5 percent can apply to that line instead. That matters when you supply your own gold to be remade, which section 39 covers.

A proper tax invoice is the single most useful document you will own for a piece of jewellery, because it fixes the weight, purity, price and making charge on the day you bought it. Insist on one every time, and check that it carries these lines.

• Net gold weight and gross weight, so any stones or other metal are separated out
• Purity as 916, 750 or 585, and the HUID of each piece
• The gold rate applied per gram on that day
• Making charges and wastage as separate lines, not folded into the rate
• Stone value and certification, if any, on their own line
• GST shown separately, with the shop's GSTIN

A handwritten slip or an estimate without GST is not enough. It also means you cannot claim the making charge as part of your cost when you later sell. Keep the invoice with the piece, and photograph it.

The right purity depends on what the piece is for. Higher karat means more gold and more value per gram, but also a softer metal.

• 22 karat, 916: the default for wedding and traditional jewellery in Amravati, and the form most easily resold or exchanged
• 18 karat, 750: harder, better for stone set and everyday pieces, and carries less gold value per gram
• 14 karat, 585: the most durable and the lowest price, common in modern lightweight designs
• 24 karat, 999: coins and bars, bought for value rather than wear

For a piece you intend to keep and pass on, 22 karat is usual. For something worn daily and set with stones, 18 karat often wears better and the lower price per gram is a real saving.

Hallmarking is mandatory for gold jewellery sold through registered jewellers, so every piece should carry three marks: the BIS logo, the purity grade such as 916, and a six character alphanumeric HUID that is unique to that piece.

Check the HUID yourself

Use the BIS Care app or the BIS website to enter the HUID. It returns the jeweller, the purity and the date of hallmarking. If the code does not resolve, or resolves to a different item, do not complete the purchase.

What the marks do not tell you

A hallmark certifies purity, not fair price. It says nothing about the making charge, wastage or stone value, so the invoice in section 13 still has to be read line by line. For older family jewellery made before hallmarking, an assay at a recognised centre gives you the same certainty.

Hallmarking is carried out by assaying and hallmarking centres recognised by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Jewellers in Amravati send finished pieces to these centres, which test, mark and return them, and the larger centres of the region such as Nagpur add further capacity.

The same centres can assay old jewellery for a fee, which is useful before you sell, exchange or remake family gold. Because the recognised list changes, confirm current centres on the BIS website or the BIS Care app rather than relying on a name given in a shop.

KDM refers to an older practice of joining pieces with a cadmium based solder, producing a lower and uncertain gold content that was often sold as if it were full purity. Cadmium is toxic, and the practice is now discouraged and, for hallmarked gold, effectively ruled out.

If a seller uses the term or offers a price that seems too good for the stated karat, ask for the hallmark and HUID. Older jewellery in family collections may contain such solder, which is one more reason to have it assayed before you rely on its stated purity.

Traditional Maharashtrian jewellery bought in Amravati centres on the mangalsutra with its gold and black bead strand, the nath nose ring, and sets such as the thushi, the bormal and the chandrahar, along with bangles, patlya and kudya earrings. These are usually 22 karat, with the making charge reflecting how much handwork the design carries.

Stone set pieces

Where a piece carries stones, pearls or glass, the gross weight includes them. Check that the invoice shows net gold weight separately and that stone value is billed on its own line, since the stones are not gold and are not recovered at the gold rate when you sell. A pearl or beaded strand sold by overall weight deserves particular care.

Amravati's established jewellery trade is concentrated in the older market lanes of the city centre, with a spread of newer showrooms across the town. Buyers from the surrounding farming districts come here for weddings and festivals, so the choice of designs and the competition between shops are both reasonable, and Nagpur and Akola widen the choice further.

What to check wherever you buy

• A BIS hallmark with HUID on every piece, verified on the BIS Care app
• A full GST invoice with weight, purity, rate and making charge as separate lines
• A written buyback or exchange policy
• Two or three quotes on the same design before you decide

Amravati's jewellery market serves a district whose income follows the cotton, soybean and orange harvests. Households come to buy for weddings and festivals, and their demand follows harvest cash as much as the festival calendar, with a good crop year visibly lifting buying in the season that follows.

The city also has a steady salaried base in education, administration and health care, anchored by the university and its colleges. That mix gives Amravati both peak seasons and a dependable year round trade.

Buying from an established online seller can be as safe as a shop, provided the same checks apply. The piece should be BIS hallmarked with a HUID you can verify, the invoice should be itemised, and the return and buyback terms should be written down.

Online sellers usually show making charges clearly and let you compare designs and prices at leisure, which is useful in a market where one counter can charge far more than another for the same weight. The trade off is that you cannot hold the piece first, so check the return window before paying.

• No HUID, or a HUID that does not resolve on the BIS Care app
• Making charges quoted verbally and then folded into a single rate on the bill
• Gross weight billed as gold weight on stone or bead set pieces
• A price that is far below the day's rate for the stated karat
• No written exchange or buyback terms

Pressure to decide at once is itself a warning sign. A reputable jeweller expects you to compare and will not mind you taking a photograph of the quote.

Amravati has an established resale market, and the nearby cities of Nagpur and Akola add choice. Three routes are common.

• Exchange against a new purchase at an established jeweller, usually the simplest and often the best credited
• Outright sale to a jeweller or refiner, which should be assayed in front of you and weighed on a calibrated scale
• Sale to a bank or recognised refinery for hallmarked coins and bars

Get two or three quotes, ask what deduction is applied for purity and wastage, and keep the written record. An exchange is a disposal for tax purposes, which section 40 explains.

Amravati's gold year follows the festival calendar and the farm cash cycle of the cotton, soybean and orange growing districts around it.

• March or April | Gudi Padwa | demand high | the Maharashtrian new year and a traditional day to buy
• April or May | Akshaya Tritiya | demand peak | the largest single volume gold day of the year, and the start of the summer wedding dates
• June to August | monsoon | demand moderate | a quieter stretch when making charges are easiest to negotiate
• September or October | Dussehra | demand high | a traditional buying day
• October or November | Dhanteras and Diwali | demand peak | the national festive surge, with cash arriving after the cotton and soybean harvest
• November to February | wedding season | demand high | concentrated on auspicious dates

The windows worth using

The quiet weeks of the monsoon and the stretch between the winter wedding dates and Gudi Padwa are when goldsmiths have capacity and making charges move most. For a salaried household, ignore the calendar for the savings portion and buy a small coin each month, which section 35 sets out.

The safest place for gold you do not wear is a bank locker, which costs a modest annual fee and removes the risk of theft. Banks do not insure the contents, so check whether your home insurance can cover the jewellery you hold there.

For pieces kept at home, avoid obvious hiding places, do not keep everything in one spot and keep invoices, hallmark details and photographs in a separate location, ideally also as scanned copies. A written list of what you own, with weights, makes any later claim or sale straightforward.

Many jewellers run monthly instalment schemes in which you pay a fixed amount for eleven months and the shop adds a bonus instalment or credit at the end, redeemable against jewellery. They help households that find it hard to save in a lump, and the discipline is the real benefit.

Read the terms before joining. Check whether the gold rate is fixed at the start or applied at redemption, whether the bonus can be taken only against making charges, what happens if you miss an instalment and what protects your deposit if the shop closes. A scheme from an established jeweller with clear written terms is a reasonable tool. An informal one is a risk.

• Jewellery: wearable and culturally central, but carries making charges that are not recovered on resale
• Coins and bars: the lowest premium over the metal, easiest to resell, best for pure investment
• Gold ETFs and funds: no storage, bought through a demat or fund account, priced close to the metal
• Sovereign gold bonds: interest on top of the gold price, but fresh issuance has been limited, so existing bonds are usually bought on the exchange
• Digital gold: convenient in small amounts, but check who holds the metal and how it is regulated

Many households use more than one route, jewellery for use and occasions, and coins or funds for savings.

Households hold gold for several reasons at once. It is a store of value that does not depend on any one government or bank, it has held its worth over long periods against a falling rupee, it can be sold or pledged quickly in an emergency, and it carries cultural weight at weddings and festivals.

For many families in Vidarbha, whose income can swing with the harvest, gold also works as a reserve that does not rely on any single year's crop. These are reasons to hold some gold, not reasons to hold all of one's savings in it.

Gold is safe in the sense that it keeps value over very long periods and is not a claim on anyone. It is not safe in the sense of steady returns. Its price can fall by a fifth or more in a year and take several years to recover.

It also pays no interest or dividend, and jewellery loses the making charge when sold. Gold suits the part of a portfolio meant to cushion shocks, usually a modest share, not the whole of it.

Property, whether a house in town or farmland, is a major store of wealth for Amravati families. Gold and property behave very differently, so the choice is rarely either or.

• Liquidity: gold can be sold in a day, property takes months and carries transaction costs
• Entry size: gold can be bought a gram at a time, property needs a large sum
• Income: property can earn rent or crops, gold earns nothing while held
• Upkeep: gold costs little to hold, property carries tax, maintenance and legal risk

Gold works as the portable, quickly sold reserve alongside land or a house, not a replacement for it.

Equity has historically delivered higher long run growth than gold but with sharper falls and more effort. Fixed deposits and debt funds give predictable income but have struggled to beat inflation after tax. Gold sits between them, a hedge that tends to hold up when other assets are under pressure.

Silver follows gold but is far more volatile and has substantial industrial demand. Many investors hold a small silver position alongside gold. A sensible mix depends on your goals, horizon and tolerance for swings, and is worth discussing with a registered adviser.

Estimates put the total gold ever mined at somewhat over two lakh tonnes, most of it still in existence because gold is not consumed. Much of it sits as jewellery, with the rest held as bars, coins and central bank reserves, and a smaller share used in electronics and industry.

Indian households are widely estimated to hold one of the largest stocks of private gold in the world. New mine supply adds only a small percentage each year, which is part of why gold is treated as scarce.

Over long periods gold has delivered returns that kept ahead of inflation in rupee terms, helped by currency weakness. Over shorter periods the record is mixed, with strong years followed by flat or falling ones. The return you actually earn depends on when you bought and what you paid.

For jewellery the honest calculation subtracts the making charge and GST you paid, which are not recovered on resale. A coin or a fund holds that cost far lower. Compare like with like, and do not quote a headline price rise as if it were your return.

Physical gold gives you something you can hold and wear, at the cost of making charges, storage and the need to verify purity. Gold ETFs and funds remove storage and purity worries and trade close to the metal price, but you hold units rather than metal and pay a small annual fee.

Sovereign gold bonds paid interest on top of the gold price and were backed by the government, but fresh issuance has been limited, so most buyers now meet them only on the exchange. For pure investment, paper gold usually costs less. For use and for the cultural role of gold, only physical will do.

Coins and bars carry the lowest premium over the metal and are the easiest gold to resell, which makes them the sensible form for saving rather than wearing. Buy 24 karat, 999, in sealed assay packaging from a bank, a hallmarked jeweller or a recognised refiner, and keep the packaging and certificate intact.

A small coin bought every month averages the price across the year, so you never have to decide whether today is a good day. That habit does more for most households than any attempt to time the market, and it is why the calendar in section 24 matters less for the savings portion than for wedding buying.

Gold futures are contracts to buy or sell gold at a set price on a future date, traded on commodity exchanges such as MCX. They exist mainly so that jewellers, refiners and traders can hedge price risk, and so that the market can discover a price. The benchmark rates used on this page draw on that market.

Futures are leveraged, so small price moves cause large gains or losses. They are not a way for a household to buy gold for a wedding or for savings, and they carry risks that physical gold does not.

A gold loan lets you borrow against jewellery you keep, usually at a lower interest rate than a personal loan because the lender holds security. Banks and regulated non bank lenders in Amravati offer them, and they are quick to arrange, which is why many farm households use them to bridge the gap before a harvest pays out.

Compare before you pledge

• The interest rate and whether it is charged monthly or at the end
• Processing, valuation and any prepayment charges
• How the lender values the gold and what share of that value it will lend
• What happens if you miss repayments, including notice and the auction process

Borrow only what you can repay, because an unpaid loan can end in the sale of the jewellery. Use a regulated lender and keep every receipt.

A small share of the world's gold goes into electronics, where its resistance to corrosion and its conductivity make it valuable in connectors and contacts, and into dentistry, medicine and decorative gilding. This industrial demand is much smaller than jewellery and investment demand, and it makes only a minor difference to the price.

Tax on gold arises at three points: when you buy it, when you sell it, and in certain cases when you receive it as a gift.

At purchase. GST applies to gold jewellery at 3 percent, in most retail invoices on the combined value of gold and making as a composite supply. Where making is billed separately as job work, 5 percent can apply to that line. TCS may also apply on high value cash purchases above the prescribed threshold. Maharashtra levies no separate state tax on gold jewellery beyond GST.

The job work point

If you supply your own gold to a goldsmith and pay only for labour, which is what happens when a family has an inherited set remade, that is job work rather than a supply of jewellery. GST at 5 percent applies to the making charge rather than 3 percent to the whole value, and the arithmetic favours the arrangement because you are not paying GST on the metal again. Ask for a job work invoice rather than a sale invoice. That invoice also creates a document where an undocumented inherited piece had none.

A note for salaried filers

A household that files a return every year and buys by bank transfer from a salary account has a documented purchase trail automatically. The source of the gold is straightforward to explain and the cost basis is on record.

At sale

Any gain is taxed as capital gains. The rate and the holding period separating short term from long term have been revised in recent Union Budgets, and treatment now differs between physical gold, gold funds and sovereign gold bonds. Making charges formed part of your cost of acquisition, claimable only if the invoice states them separately.

On gifts and on holding

Gold received from specified close relatives is generally exempt. Gold received from others above a prescribed value can be taxable as income from other sources. Gifts received on the occasion of the recipient's marriage are generally exempt. India has no wealth tax on gold at present. Tax rules have changed more than once in recent Finance Acts, so treat this as general orientation rather than advice.

The calculation itself is simple. The complications are documentary. Start with the sale consideration, meaning what you actually received. Subtract the cost of acquisition, meaning what you originally paid, including making charges and GST where they formed part of the cost. Subtract any expenditure incurred wholly in connection with the sale. What remains is the capital gain. Whether that gain is short term or long term depends on the holding period, and the threshold has been revised in recent Budgets.

Making charges are part of your cost

On a piece bought at 20 percent making, that charge formed part of what you paid and therefore part of your cost of acquisition. Omitting it overstates your gain. The deduction is only available if the invoice states making separately, which is why section 13 insists on a full tax invoice.

Where the cost cannot be established

This is a real situation for households whose jewellery arrived without paperwork, whether inherited, gifted or brought with the family. There is no retrospective fix and there are established approaches for dealing with it. Take advice from a professional, because the treatment depends on the facts and on the rules for the relevant year. From now on, document everything. An assay report gives an established purity and a job work invoice from any remaking creates a dated record.

Exchange is a disposal

Exchanging old jewellery against a new purchase is a disposal of the old pieces and can give rise to a capital gain even though no cash reached you. Keep the exchange documentation showing what was credited, at what weight and rate. Inherited gold is not itself a taxable transfer, and the cost is generally taken as the previous owner's cost. This section is general information and not tax advice.

Gold held through exchange traded funds is taxed under rules that differ from physical gold, and the rate and holding period have changed in recent Budgets. Sovereign gold bonds carry their own treatment, including tax on the interest they pay and a different outcome on redemption at maturity compared with a sale before maturity.

Because the rules are specific to the instrument and to the year, check the current position with a tax professional before you buy or sell in size. This section is general information, not tax advice.

Amravati grew as a trading and educational centre of the Vidarbha plains, and the cotton trade of the region built the merchant capital that sustained a strong local trade in jewellery. The railways tied its markets to Mumbai and Nagpur, and the older market lanes of the city still reflect that history.

Today's market combines long established family jewellers with national brands and a growing online segment, which has widened choice and sharpened price comparison.

Demand in Amravati comes from three sources. Wedding buying is the largest and the most concentrated on auspicious dates. Festival buying peaks at Gudi Padwa, Akshaya Tritiya and Dhanteras. Investment buying through coins, bars and funds is steadier and tends to rise when the price is rising.

Because the city serves a farming district, demand also follows the cotton, soybean and orange harvests, with a good crop year visibly lifting buying in the season that follows.

When the price rises sharply, the weight of gold people buy tends to fall even as the rupee value of what they spend rises. That is a pattern in India generally and it appears in Amravati too. Buyers shift toward lighter designs, lower karat pieces and coins rather than heavy sets.

Gold remains deeply tied to weddings and festivals here, so the cultural demand continues. What changes is the form and the weight, not the habit.

The metal rate is close to uniform across Indian cities because every jeweller prices off the same benchmark. Small differences come from transport and insurance costs, local demand and the premium a market adds in peak season. A large gap between two shops in the same city almost always lies in the making charge, not the gold.

That is why comparing the per gram gold rate between cities is rarely useful. Compare the final bill for the same weight, purity and design, and travelling to a bigger city such as Nagpur is seldom worth the cost unless the making charge difference is large.

Across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Nagpur and Amravati the benchmark moves together, with differences of a fraction of a percent on any given day. Chennai and Kerala have historically carried slightly different levels because of local trade practice, but the gap is small compared with what a making charge adds.

If you are choosing where to buy, the useful comparison is the final price including making and GST on an identical piece, along with the quality of the hallmark and the written buyback terms.

India produces very little gold and imports almost all it consumes, mainly as bars from refiners abroad, through authorised banks and nominated agencies. Import duty and GST are charged at the border, and changes in the duty feed directly into the domestic price.

A large share of the gold supplied is also recycled, as households sell or exchange old jewellery. Refiners melt it down and it re enters the market, which is why high prices bring a wave of old gold to market.

The government's gold monetisation arrangements let households deposit idle gold with banks in return for interest, but they have been revised and parts of them scaled back, so check what a bank currently offers before relying on it. The deposit is usually melted down, so you do not get the same pieces back.

Remaking old gold

Many families remake inherited jewellery rather than sell it. Do it as job work on your own gold, as section 39 explains, assay the metal first, and have the weight recorded before and after. You pay making charges but not the metal again, and the new piece comes with a dated invoice.

You can check any quote in five steps, and the worked example in section 12 shows the arithmetic with numbers.

• Take the net gold weight in grams from the piece or the estimate
• Multiply by today's per gram rate for the karat of the piece
• Add the making charge, as a percentage of that value or as grams times the per gram figure
• Add any stone value and certification, on their own lines
• Add GST at the applicable rate and the small hallmarking charge

If the shop's figure is higher than yours by more than rounding, ask which line differs. Doing this before you commit turns a vague discount into a number you can compare.
