Platinum Rate Today in Andaman and Nicobar Islands – 7 Nov 2026, 8 AM IST

• Today's platinum rate in Andaman and Nicobar
• PGI certification and Pt950 purity
• Making charges and GST
• Where to buy platinum

The figures in the live table are reference rates for Pt 950 and Pt 900 platinum, refreshed every business day against international bullion benchmarks. Platinum jewellery is a genuinely small category in the islands, limited to a handful of Port Blair showrooms and online orders delivered from the mainland.

This page covers today's rate, PGI certification and Pt950 purity, making charges and GST, where to buy, taxation and a detailed FAQ.

The weight table converts today's per gram rate into the denominations relevant to platinum jewellery buyers, from a single gram through 10 grams, for both Pt 950 and Pt 900 purity.

As with the rest of India, platinum in the islands is sold almost exclusively as finished rings, bands and pendants rather than loose bullion, coins or bars.

A single day's rate tells you very little on its own. The last ten trading sessions show whether today's print sits at the top of a run, at the bottom of a pullback, or in the middle of a flat stretch.

Platinum's international price is set by a smaller, more concentrated global market than gold or silver, dominated by South Africa and Russia, which can make its short term movements less predictable.

The trend table sets today's rate against its opening and closing values over seven days, thirty days and twelve months. Platinum's price is shaped heavily by global automotive demand for catalytic converters, alongside jewellery demand.

For the islands' small number of platinum retailers, this table is used mainly to set jewellery pricing rather than to inform any investment decision, since platinum here is a jewellery purchase, not a savings vehicle.

Platinum trades internationally in US dollars per troy ounce, set by a global market considerably smaller than gold or silver. This rate converts at the prevailing USD to INR exchange rate and picks up customs duty and GST before reaching Indian retail, including the small volumes that reach Port Blair.

Since platinum is not traded as bullion at any Indian retail market, the islands' small number of retailers price finished jewellery against this international reference rate directly, without a local bullion market layer.

Global automotive demand, mine supply out of South Africa and Russia, and investment flows move the international platinum price. The rupee's exchange rate and Indian import duty changes move the local price on top of that.

Locally, wedding and engagement season brings whatever modest seasonal uplift exists in platinum buying among Port Blair's small pool of buyers.

Pt 950 platinum, 95 percent pure, is by far the standard used for platinum jewellery sold in India, including any stock reaching the islands.

Pt 900, 90 percent pure, is far less common. Confirm which purity a quote refers to before comparing options, since the two are not interchangeable in price.

The rate shown on this page is the metal price alone. What you pay at the counter adds a making charge, then GST at 3 percent on the combined total of metal value plus making charge.

What making charges typically run

• Simple platinum bands | roughly 18 to 28 percent, reflecting both the metal's density and freight related costs
• Diamond set engagement rings | roughly 22 to 38 percent

Making charges on platinum in the islands tend to run above equivalent mainland rates, reflecting both platinum's inherently higher labour cost and the freight premium built into stock shipped to Port Blair.

Platinum jewellery in India is not covered under the BIS mandatory hallmarking scheme that applies to gold and silver. Purity is identified through the Pt 950 or Pt 900 stamp, supported by certification from the Platinum Guild International.

• Look for the Pt 950 or Pt 900 purity stamp engraved on the piece
• Ask for a PGI Certificate of Authenticity with a verifiable serial number

Given the very limited local platinum retail in Port Blair, buying from an established national brand, whether at a local showroom or online with insured delivery, is the practical way to ensure genuine PGI certification.

Only a handful of Port Blair's larger jewellery showrooms, mainly around Aberdeen Bazaar, stock any platinum jewellery at all, and selection is limited to a small range of rings and bands rather than the fuller collections available in mainland cities.

For anyone in the islands wanting a specific design, checking with a Port Blair showroom about special ordering from their mainland supplier, or buying online from an established national platinum brand, are both more reliable than expecting to find a wide range on the shelf locally.

Platinum is denser than gold, naturally white without plating, and hypoallergenic, qualities that have driven its popularity for engagement rings nationally. In the islands, this national trend has reached Port Blair only in a limited way, given the small resident population and correspondingly small jewellery retail base.

Gold remains the overwhelming default for both bridal and festival buying in the islands, with platinum a niche choice mainly among younger, more urban minded couples who often source it through mainland or online purchase rather than local retail.

White gold is yellow gold alloyed with white metals and plated with rhodium, which wears off over time and needs periodic replating. Platinum is naturally white throughout, needing no plating, a durability advantage that matters even more in the islands given limited local jewellery repair services.

Platinum is also denser than gold, so a platinum ring of the same visual size genuinely contains more metal by weight, part of why total price can exceed a comparable gold design.

A small but growing number of younger couples in Port Blair choose platinum engagement rings, following the same national trend seen in mainland cities, though local availability lags well behind demand given the category's small scale here.

Many of these couples order online from national brands or purchase during a mainland trip, rather than expecting to find their preferred design at a local Port Blair showroom.

Platinum jewellery manufacturing in India is concentrated in specialist mainland hubs with the specific machinery and skills platinum's density and hardness require, an investment that makes no economic sense for the islands' small retail market.

Every piece of platinum jewellery sold in Port Blair, whether locally stocked or online ordered, is manufactured on the mainland and shipped in as a finished product.

Platinum entering the Indian jewellery trade arrives mostly as semi-finished components supplied to manufacturers in hubs like Mumbai and Jaipur, worked into finished rings and bands, a small share of which reach Port Blair through mainland wholesale relationships.

Given the tiny volumes involved, national import policy changes for platinum have a less immediately visible effect on island retail pricing than equivalent changes for gold or silver.

Pt 950 platinum is 95 percent pure, the standard used for the large majority of platinum jewellery sold in India, including any stock reaching Port Blair. Pt 900, 90 percent pure, is far less common.

The Platinum Guild International issues a Certificate of Authenticity carrying a serial number, the PGI logo and the jeweller's identification mark. Since platinum is not BIS hallmarked, this certificate is the closest equivalent to a hallmark available to island buyers, and confirming its presence is the most useful purity check available, particularly given the absence of any local BIS assaying infrastructure.

A small number of larger Port Blair showrooms carry limited platinum stock. For a wider selection, ordering online from an established, PGI certified national brand with delivery to the islands is generally the more practical route.

What to check wherever you buy

• The Pt 950 or Pt 900 purity stamp on the piece
• A PGI Certificate of Authenticity with a verifiable serial number
• A proper GST invoice carrying weight, purity, rate and making charge

Resale in the islands is genuinely limited, given how few shops stock platinum in the first place. Approach the original retailer first, whether a Port Blair showroom or the online brand you purchased from, and retain your PGI certificate and invoice.

Some buyers with a platinum piece to sell find better options during a mainland visit, where a wider pool of retailers may offer more competitive buyback terms.

Platinum's buying pattern in the islands is milestone driven, centred on engagements and weddings rather than the broader festival calendar that drives gold and silver buying.

Given how small this category is locally, many island couples choosing platinum plan their purchase around a mainland trip or an online order timed well ahead of the occasion, rather than expecting to find their preferred design in a Port Blair showroom.

Taxes on platinum are set nationally, so nothing here is specific to the islands.

At purchase, GST at 3 percent applies on the value of the metal plus making charges. At sale, since platinum is bought almost entirely as jewellery, resale is generally treated the same way as gold and silver jewellery for tax purposes. Large cash purchases require PAN above the prescribed threshold.

None of this is tax advice. Confirm current rules with a chartered accountant for a large transaction.

Platinum in the islands, as across India, is bought almost entirely for its jewellery value rather than as a savings instrument. There is no culture of buying platinum coins or bars for resale, and no dedicated platinum ETF product for Indian retail investors.

The practical framing for an island buyer is to treat platinum as a jewellery and lifestyle decision, chosen for durability and appearance, not as a store of value comparable to gold or silver.

Platinum's international price has traded below gold per gram for much of the last decade, a reversal from most of the twentieth century, when platinum traded at a premium to gold, reflecting platinum's heavier dependence on automotive industrial demand.

This pricing relationship has made platinum a genuinely competitive option against gold for engagement rings in recent years, wherever it is available to buy.

Platinum mine supply is far more geographically concentrated than gold or silver, with South Africa and Russia together accounting for the large majority of global production, making the price genuinely more sensitive to mining disruptions in these two countries.

Automotive demand for catalytic converters remains platinum's single largest end use globally. For island buyers, none of this changes the practical advice, since platinum here is a jewellery decision, not a timing dependent investment.

Platinum is significantly denser than gold and silver, meaning a platinum piece of identical size contains more metal by weight. It is more resistant to everyday wear than gold and does not tarnish like silver, while remaining naturally white.

These physical properties, rather than investment characteristics, are the primary reasons the small number of island buyers who choose platinum do so.

Platinum does not tarnish and is more scratch resistant in terms of metal loss than gold, though it develops a soft patina with wear that some owners prefer, while others have it professionally repolished.

Given the limited number of jewellers locally who work with platinum, repolishing may need to wait for a mainland visit or be arranged by post with the retailer who sold the piece.

A proper invoice should show the net platinum weight in grams, the purity as Pt 950 or Pt 900, the rate applied per gram that day, the making charge, and GST at 3 percent applied on the metal plus making charge combined.

For diamond set rings, the invoice should separately state the diamond value and certification alongside the platinum weight and rate. Keep the PGI Certificate of Authenticity together with your invoice.

• No PGI certificate offered with the piece, which should prompt caution given the absence of mandatory hallmarking for platinum
• White gold sold or represented as platinum
• Making charges quoted verbally but not itemised on the final bill

Buying from an established, PGI affiliated national brand, whether a Port Blair showroom or a reputable online retailer, is the most reliable way to avoid these issues.

• Pt 950: platinum that is 95 percent pure, the standard for most Indian platinum jewellery
• Pt 900: platinum that is 90 percent pure, less common
• PGI: the Platinum Guild International, the body that certifies platinum jewellery purity
• Certificate of Authenticity: the PGI document confirming a piece's purity and serial number
• Making charges: the fee a jeweller adds for crafting a piece
• Patina: the soft surface finish platinum develops naturally with wear

There is no prescribed CBDT safe harbour limit for platinum jewellery the way there is for gold. As with any valuable asset, holdings should be supportable through invoices and disclosed income if ever questioned.

Cash payments above the prescribed threshold require your PAN card, and payments above two lakh rupees in cash for a single transaction are not permitted regardless of PAN, the same national rule that applies to gold and silver.

Since platinum is treated as a physical asset similar to jewellery, profit on resale held over 12 months would generally qualify for long term capital gains treatment at 12.5 percent without indexation, under rules applicable for financial year 2025 to 2026.

Given how rarely platinum is resold purely for investment purposes in the islands, this scenario is far less common in practice than for gold or silver. Confirm current rules with a chartered accountant before a large sale.

Platinum jewellery is a recent addition even to the mainland Indian market, and reached the islands later still, arriving in Port Blair's larger showrooms only as national demand grew meaningfully in the years following the pandemic.

Given the islands' small population and retail base, platinum has never developed the dedicated showroom presence it has in mainland cities, remaining instead a category a handful of larger jewellers stock alongside their main gold and diamond business.

National platinum jewellery sales have grown strongly in recent years according to PGI industry data, though this growth has reached the islands only modestly given the small resident population and limited retail infrastructure.

Most growth locally comes through online orders and mainland purchases by island residents rather than expanding local showroom stock, a pattern likely to continue given the economics of stocking a niche category for a small market.

Dedicated platinum savings schemes are essentially non existent in the islands, reflecting both the category's status as a pure jewellery purchase and the very small number of retailers who stock it at all.

A larger jeweller who also sells gold may occasionally allow a platinum purchase through an existing gold savings scheme balance, but this is a retailer specific accommodation rather than a standard product.

• A Port Blair showroom, limited selection but immediate and returnable in person
• Online from an established national brand, wider selection, PGI certified, subject to delivery time
• A mainland purchase during travel, widest selection and in person fitting, but tied to travel timing

There is no meaningful coin, bar or ETF route for platinum in India, so the choice for island buyers is essentially between these three jewellery purchase routes.

If you are in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and considering a platinum or lab grown diamond jewellery purchase, Lucira offers Pt 950 platinum and certified lab grown diamond pieces with transparent, itemised pricing and doorstep delivery, a practical option given the very limited local selection.

Every Lucira piece is priced against the live daily rate shown on this page, with making charges and certification costs shown separately.

Comparing platinum against property, gold or equity as an asset class is not meaningful, since platinum in the islands is bought for its jewellery and symbolic value rather than as a store of wealth.

Island households that own platinum jewellery also hold gold, property and other conventional assets separately for savings, treating platinum purely as a personal or gifted item.

Platinum is naturally hypoallergenic and holds up well against the islands' humid, salt laden coastal climate compared with metals prone to tarnishing, a genuine practical advantage for anyone wearing jewellery daily near the sea.

Rinsing platinum jewellery after swimming and drying it before storage is still good practice, even though the metal itself is not damaged by salt water the way some other metals can be.

A small number of larger Port Blair showrooms around Aberdeen Bazaar carry limited platinum stock, generally as a secondary category alongside their main gold and diamond business rather than a dedicated platinum offering.

For any significant platinum purchase, comparing what little local stock exists against an online order from an established national brand is a reasonable approach given the category's genuinely limited local presence.

Platinum's density and strength make it a genuinely preferred choice for setting diamonds securely, particularly in prong settings that must hold a stone firmly over years of daily wear.

Island buyers considering a diamond engagement ring in platinum versus gold should weigh this durability advantage against the higher upfront cost and more limited local availability.

Given how limited Port Blair's in person platinum selection is, established national brands offering PGI certified pieces online with insured delivery to the islands are often the more practical route than relying on local showroom stock.

For an engagement ring specifically, some buyers still prefer to try a ring on in person during a mainland visit before finalising an online order for sizing accuracy.

BIS mandatory hallmarking in India currently covers only gold and silver jewellery, with platinum left outside the scheme. Island buyers do not get the government backed HUID traceability for platinum that they now have for gold and silver, relying instead on PGI certification.

Given the islands also lack any local BIS assaying infrastructure, this makes buying from an established, PGI affiliated national brand, whether locally or online, an even more important precaution here than on the mainland.

Platinum wedding bands and couple sets have found modest demand among island grooms, mirroring the national trend, though selection locally remains limited to what a handful of Port Blair showrooms choose to stock.

As with women's platinum jewellery, online ordering from an established brand is often the more reliable way for island buyers to access a genuine men's platinum collection.

Platinum remains a genuinely minor category within the islands' overall jewellery economy, which is dominated by gold and the distinct local shell and pearl craft trade rather than any precious metal manufacturing base.

As national platinum demand continues to grow, Port Blair's showrooms may gradually expand their stock, but the islands are likely to remain a market served primarily through online and mainland purchase for the foreseeable future.
