Gold Price Today in Azamgarh – 7 Nov 2026, 7 AM IST

The gold rate in Azamgarh today follows the national MCX and IBJA benchmark, refreshed every business day and shown per gram and per tola, the 10 gram unit used across Uttar Pradesh, for 24K, 22K, 18K and 14K gold.

This is a bullion reference rate, the price of the raw metal before a jeweller adds anything. It excludes making charges, wastage, GST and any stone value.

Azamgarh's jewellery trade is concentrated around the city's main market area, and most established jewellers here quote against the same daily benchmark shown above, since the underlying gold price is set nationally rather than by any individual seller.

A small local premium, typically a modest amount per 10 grams, reflects the cost of moving bullion from Varanasi and the working capital cost a local dealer carries on unsold inventory.

The published per gram rate scales linearly to any weight you need. Multiply the per gram figure by the number of grams for the exact purity you are pricing.

For the tola, multiply the per gram rate by 10. A half tola, one tola, five tola and ten tola are the quantities most commonly asked about in local trade, alongside the standard 8 gram and 100 gram benchmarks used in wider comparisons.

Larger weights, up to a full kilogram, matter mainly to bullion dealers and institutional buyers rather than a household making a retail purchase.

A single day's rate tells you very little on its own. The last ten trading sessions tell you whether today's print sits at the top of a run, at the bottom of a pullback, or somewhere flat in the middle.

Read three things from the ten day table. The net movement from the earliest session to today. The high and the low, which give you the trading range for the period. And whether daily changes have been small and steady or large and alternating.

For a wedding purchase in Azamgarh, this ten day view matters less than it might appear, since the date is usually fixed well in advance.

Different timeframes answer different questions, and confusing them is the most common mistake in reading gold price data. A weekly trend smooths out daily noise and is genuinely useful for timing a purchase within a given month.

An annual trend matters most for anyone thinking about gold as savings rather than an immediate purchase, since gold has historically moved in multi year cycles.

For an Azamgarh household planning around the wedding season, the weekly and monthly views are the ones worth checking regularly.

The annual table shows the year end 24 karat rate per 10 grams across the last decade, with the change from the previous year.

What a decade of year end prices tells you

• The compounding is uneven | long flat stretches punctuated by sharp rallies, with most of the decade gain concentrated in a few years
• Entry point matters | buying at a rally peak has meant waiting years to recover in real terms
• Part of the gain is currency | a weaker rupee lifts the Indian price even when international gold is flat
• Duty changes create steps | a customs duty revision moves the retail rate independently of the world market
• Year end is one day | a single annual print hides the range the metal traded through that year

For an Azamgarh household, this long range view is most relevant when deciding how gold should sit alongside other savings.

The rate on this page is not set in Azamgarh. It starts with international bullion prices, set primarily through trading in London and New York, where gold is priced in US dollars against global supply and demand.

That dollar price converts into rupee terms using the day's exchange rate. From there, import duty and GST are added nationally, followed by a small local dealer margin.

The MCX and IBJA benchmarks referenced throughout this page reflect the national price after duty and GST but before that final local margin, which is why an Azamgarh showroom's actual quote sits marginally above the benchmark figure.

Day to day moves are driven almost entirely by a small set of international factors. US interest rate expectations are the single biggest driver, since gold pays no interest itself and becomes relatively less attractive when bond yields rise.

Central bank gold buying has been a genuinely significant structural demand source in recent years. Local Azamgarh demand, however strong during a wedding season, does not meaningfully move the underlying rate.

India imports the overwhelming majority of the gold it consumes, since domestic mining output is negligible relative to national demand. This makes import volume and customs duty policy genuinely important background factors.

None of these supply side factors can be predicted reliably from a single city's demand pattern, which is precisely why speculative short term gold buying carries genuine risk.

Nobody, including professional bullion traders, can reliably predict short term gold price movement. Anyone offering confident certainty about tomorrow's rate is not a reliable source.

An Azamgarh household planning a purchase is better served deciding based on actual need, a wedding date already fixed, rather than attempting to time the market.

916 is the BIS hallmark stamp for 22 karat gold, meaning the piece is 91.6 percent pure gold by weight, with the remaining 8.4 percent alloyed, usually with silver, copper or zinc, to give the metal the hardness needed for everyday jewellery.

A genuine 916 piece carries four distinct marks. The BIS hallmark logo itself. A six digit HUID, unique to that specific piece. The jeweller's own registered identification mark. And the purity grade, stamped as 916 or lasered directly onto the metal.

All four together are what makes a piece genuinely verifiable, and the HUID specifically is what allows independent confirmation through the BIS CARE app.

24 karat gold is 99.9 percent pure and functions as the benchmark against which every other purity is priced. In practical terms, 24 karat gold is too soft for jewellery meant to withstand daily wear, which is why 24K is sold mainly as coins and bars.

For an Azamgarh buyer, this distinction matters most when comparing a jewellery quote against a coin quote.

The published gold rate is only the starting point. An Azamgarh jeweller adds making charges on top of the raw gold value, then applies three percent GST to the combined total.

A worked example, line by line

The figures below use an illustrative 22 karat rate of 10,000 rupees per gram purely to keep the arithmetic readable. Substitute today's actual rate from the live table above. The piece is a 10 gram 22 karat chain at a making charge of 12 percent.

• Gold value | 10 grams at 10,000 per gram | 1,00,000 rupees
• Making charges | 12 percent of gold value | 12,000 rupees
• Subtotal before tax | gold plus making | 1,12,000 rupees
• GST | 3 percent on the subtotal | 3,360 rupees
• Hallmarking | per piece charge plus tax | approximately 45 rupees
• Final billed amount | approximately 1,15,400 rupees | about 15 percent above bullion value

The same chain across the Azamgarh market

• 8 percent, machine made chain from a local family jeweller | approximately 1,11,300 rupees
• 12 percent, standard retail | approximately 1,15,400 rupees
• 18 percent, branded showroom | approximately 1,21,600 rupees
• 25 percent or more, fine handcrafted bridal work | approximately 1,28,800 rupees and upward

Over 17,000 rupees separates the top and bottom rows on the same 10 grams of the same metal, and every one of those quotes is genuinely available within Azamgarh.

How GST is applied

In most Azamgarh retail invoices the jewellery is billed as a composite supply and 3 percent GST is charged on the combined value of gold and making.

A complete invoice protects you at purchase, at resale and at tax time. Before you pay, confirm every one of the following appears on it.

The invoice checklist

• Gross weight | total weight including stones | why it matters: it must not be the figure the gold rate is applied to
• Net gold weight | the gold alone | why it matters: the only correct basis for the gold calculation
• Purity | written as 916, 750 or 585 | why it matters: it fixes the rate applied and the resale value
• HUID | six characters, per hallmarked item | why it matters: the only way to verify the piece in the BIS CARE app
• Gold rate applied | per gram, on that date | why it matters: without it the calculation cannot be reproduced
• Making charges | basis stated, percentage or per gram | why it matters: the two produce very different totals on heavier pieces
• Wastage | as its own line if charged | why it matters: folded into making, it becomes invisible and non negotiable
• Stone weight and value | itemised, with certification where applicable | why it matters: it is the least transparent line on any bill
• GST | rate applied and the value it was applied to | why it matters: it distinguishes composite billing from job work billing
• Hallmarking charge | per piece | why it matters: it should be a small fixed amount, not a percentage
• Buyback and exchange terms | in writing | why it matters: the line most often omitted and the one that decides what you recover

On a multi piece bridal purchase, insist each item is invoiced separately with its own weight, purity and HUID.

Purity is not a quality ranking. Each grade exists because it suits a different job, and choosing by the highest number is a common and often expensive mistake for a first time buyer.

The four grades compared

• 24 karat | stamped 999 | 99.9 percent gold | durability very low | best for coins and bars | not suitable for wear | highest resale value per gram
• 22 karat | stamped 916 | 91.6 percent gold | durability moderate | traditional jewellery and bridal sets | strong resale value
• 18 karat | stamped 750 | 75 percent gold | durability high | diamond and daily wear jewellery | moderate resale value
• 14 karat | stamped 585 | 58.5 percent gold | durability highest | lightweight contemporary designs, rare in local retail stock | lowest resale value per gram

What this means in Azamgarh specifically

22K, marked 916, is the standard choice for traditional jewellery here. 18K is worth genuinely considering for an engagement ring or any piece with a significant stone.

The short version. If gold content is the point, buy 22 karat or a coin. If the design or the stone is the point, buy 18 karat.

Every hallmarked piece carries a unique HUID, a six digit alphanumeric code that can be checked against the BIS CARE mobile app or website, which will confirm the piece's registered purity and the assaying centre that certified it.

If the app shows a different purity than what you have been quoted, or shows no record at all for that code, that is grounds to walk away from the purchase entirely.

BIS registered Assaying and Hallmarking Centres operate independently of any individual jeweller and exist specifically to test a piece's purity for a nominal fee, far less than the value of the piece itself.

For a buyer in Azamgarh, this is the right route whenever there is genuine doubt about a piece.

KDM refers to gold soldered using a cadmium based alloy, a technique now officially phased out in favour of BIS hallmarking, though the term still circulates in older trade conversation. A piece sold as KDM today should still carry a proper BIS hallmark and HUID if purchased new.

If a seller uses the term KDM to explain the absence of a hallmark, treat that as a red flag.

Azamgarh's identity as a significant district within the Purvanchal region of eastern Uttar Pradesh, known for its handloom weaving tradition and a large population working outside the state, has no direct relationship to gold, so it is worth being precise about what actually is gold.

Purvanchal bridal gold

The bridal vocabulary carried in this region includes worked traditional neck pieces, kadas and the mangalsutra pattern common across Uttar Pradesh. On all of these the checks are the standard ones: net gold weight in grams, the making basis, the hallmark on every piece. For any diamond involved, check it against the 4Cs of cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.

Handloom weaving is not gold

Azamgarh's genuine reputation for handloom textile weaving, alongside remittance income from a large population working in other states and cities, has no relationship to precious metal whatsoever, though remittance timing genuinely influences local gold buying patterns. This page mentions it only to be complete about the local identity.

On diamonds

For any significant stone, insist on a report from a laboratory independent of the seller. Lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds. Lucira's lab grown diamonds carry IGI or SGL certification.

Azamgarh's traditional gold trade is concentrated around the city's main market area, home to established local family jewellers where relationships and reputation matter as much as the advertised price.

Beyond the main market, a newer commercial stretch carries branches of regional and national chains offering somewhat more standardised pricing and fixed making charges.

Online. Certified pieces with published pricing, delivery and return windows, useful for coins and standardised jewellery.

Whichever area you choose, insist on the same three things without exception: BIS hallmarking verified through the HUID, itemised invoicing separating gold weight, making charge and GST, and a written buyback policy stated before you pay.

Azamgarh's handloom weaving trade, alongside genuinely significant remittance income sent home from other states, has built a genuinely active local gold market, with established local names competing alongside branded chains for the same customer base.

Buying coins and simple jewellery online from an established, hallmarked retailer is straightforward and often competitively priced, with the added benefit of a documented digital trail. For heavier or more intricate bridal pieces, many buyers still prefer to see and handle the piece in person.

Because the underlying gold rate is broadly uniform across Azamgarh, almost every genuine dispute traces to the making charge or to what is not written on the invoice, not to the metal itself.

Not taking three quotes. The spread between a local family jeweller and a branded showroom on the same design can be genuinely wide.

A making charge quoted only as a total. Ask for the basis, a percentage of gold value or a fixed amount per gram.

Wastage folded into making. Ask for both as separate lines.

Weight taken with the stones in. On any set piece, net gold weight must be shown separately.

Accepting an uncertified diamond. Insist on a report from a recognised laboratory independent of the seller.

A consolidated invoice on a multi piece bridal purchase. Each item needs its own weight, purity and HUID.

Buying during peak festive pressure without checking carefully.

Buyback described only verbally. If the terms are real they can be written on the invoice before you pay.

Azamgarh offers several genuine routes for selling or exchanging gold. Prepare first: get the pieces assayed at a BIS recognised centre, check today's rate, gather original invoices, and take quotes from more than one buyer.

Your options in Azamgarh

The original jeweller, if buyback terms were published at purchase. Established local houses, many of which have bought back from the same families across generations. Branded chain outlets, which typically publish a clearer deduction structure. And brand exchange programmes, including Lucira's Old Gold Exchange, which typically deliver the highest effective value but only against a new purchase.

What you will not recover

The making charge. You are credited for the metal, not the craftsmanship.

Azamgarh's demand calendar follows the standard north Indian festival and wedding pattern, with a remittance timing overlay tied to when family members working elsewhere send money home.

The Azamgarh gold buying year

• April to May | Akshaya Tritiya | demand very high | the highest single day gold buying volume of the Indian year
• June to September | monsoon lull | demand low | the quietest stretch of the Azamgarh year, best for a discretionary purchase
• October to November | Dhanteras and Diwali | demand peak | the busiest retail days nationally, often timed with family members returning home
• November to February | wedding season | demand high | the primary driver of large gold purchases in this region

The practical implication

June through September, before the Dhanteras-Diwali rush, is the clearest quiet window, when goldsmiths have genuine capacity and making charges are most negotiable.

A bank locker remains the most secure option for significant holdings, and the modest annual fee is genuinely worth it for anything beyond everyday wear pieces. Photograph every item with its visible hallmark, HUID and approximate weight clearly captured for insurance purposes.

Keep purchase invoices in a separate location from the gold. A waterproof, fire resistant safe is a reasonable middle ground for households that want gold accessible at home.

Monthly instalment schemes are offered by established local jewellers and by the national chains present in the city. You pay a fixed amount monthly for a defined term, most often eleven months. At maturity the jeweller adds a bonus, commonly equal to one instalment, redeemable against jewellery.

Whether it suits you depends on your income

A fixed monthly scheme fits a salaried or trade household reasonably well. It can fit a household reliant on remittance income less predictably, since money often arrives in lump sums rather than a steady monthly flow. Ask specifically what happens if an instalment is missed before joining.

The question that decides the outcome

What making charge applies at redemption, and can the scheme be redeemed against plain gold and coins or only against selected stock. A bonus of one instalment in eleven is roughly nine percent, and against fine handwork at twenty five percent making it disappears immediately.

And check it is registered

Confirm the scheme is registered with the Registrar of Companies, which is a legal requirement for deposit taking schemes.

Lucira's Vault of Dreams follows a 9 plus 1 structure: pay ten monthly instalments and receive eleven months of value at redemption, on published terms rather than terms negotiated case by case.

Eight formats are available to an Azamgarh buyer and they are not substitutes for one another. Purpose should decide the format, not familiarity or convenience alone.

The eight formats compared

• Jewellery | minimum is piece price | held physically | liquidity moderate | cost 8 to 25 percent making | best for wearing and bridal gifting
• Coins | from half a gram | held physically | liquidity high | cost 2 to 8 percent premium | best for gifting and steady accumulation
• Bars | from five grams | held physically | liquidity high | lowest premium | best for bulk holding
• Digital gold | from very small amounts | vaulted by provider | liquidity high | cost is the spread | best for small regular buying without a demat account
• Gold ETF | one unit | held in demat | liquidity high in market hours | cost is the expense ratio | best for portfolio allocation
• Sovereign gold bond | one gram | demat or certificate | liquidity low until maturity | no making cost, pays interest, tax exempt at eight year maturity | best for a long hold
• Gold mutual fund | SIP amount | held in demat | liquidity high | cost is the expense ratio | best for systematic investing
• Gold futures | one contract lot | no holding | liquidity very high | cost is margin and brokerage | for traders only, not a savings vehicle

The demat requirement is the genuine dividing line. If the gold will be worn, only jewellery serves.

Gold's price is set in London and Mumbai and pays no attention to local trade cycles or a specific family's circumstances this year, which is precisely why it sits alongside other income sources rather than duplicating their risk.

It is also the one form of savings reachable within a day, anywhere in India, without paperwork, which genuinely matters for a household whose earning members may be working several states away.

Gold is genuinely low risk relative to equity, but it is not risk free. Its price does fluctuate, sometimes substantially over a year or two, even though it has trended upward over longer periods.

Physical gold also carries storage and theft risk that paper gold instruments avoid entirely.

Property in and around Azamgarh has appreciated as the city has grown, with remittance income genuinely contributing to residential construction in many neighbourhoods.

Gold and Azamgarh property side by side

• Entry size | gold from one gram | property requires a large committed sum plus stamp duty and registration
• Liquidity | gold converts to cash in a day | a property sale runs to months and depends on finding one specific buyer
• Income | gold produces none | property can be let, though rental demand outside the commercial core is inconsistent
• Divisibility | gold can be sold a few grams at a time | land or a house cannot be sold in fractions
• Price transparency | gold prices off a single national benchmark | Azamgarh property pricing varies considerably by locality
• Leverage | gold is normally bought outright | property is frequently bought with a loan, amplifying both gain and loss

Most households hold both. Gold's role is to be the small liquid holding that exists independent of any single location, which matters when family members are spread across several cities.

Gold is best understood next to the assets it sits alongside rather than on its own.

Four assets compared

• Gold | no income | volatility moderate | inflation protection strong | crisis behaviour typically rises | role is reserve and collateral
• Equity | dividends and reinvested earnings | volatility high | inflation protection moderate over long periods | crisis behaviour falls hard | role is long term growth
• Deposits and small savings | fixed interest | volatility low | inflation protection weak | crisis behaviour stable | role is capital preservation
• Silver | no income | volatility very high | inflation protection moderate | industrial demand pulls both ways | role is a higher risk metals proxy

Do not concentrate risk

A household whose income depends heavily on remittances from a single earning member working elsewhere, and whose savings are also entirely tied to that one income stream, carries a genuine concentration risk.

On silver

Silver has a genuine place in Purvanchal households and is a real precious metal. Check today's Azamgarh silver rate separately, since it moves independently of gold and swings harder, because roughly half its demand is industrial.

The comparison within gold

Jewellery against coins. Two households spend the same sum. One holds a worked piece having paid up to twenty five percent in making. The other holds several percent more actual metal.

All the gold ever mined would fit into a cube roughly 22 metres on each side, a genuinely small quantity relative to how widely it is held and traded globally. This scarcity is part of why it has functioned as a store of value across most human civilisations.

Gold has delivered meaningful rupee returns over the past two decades, but this reflects both rising global gold prices and a weakening rupee, not gold generating income the way a dividend paying stock does.

Three routes to owning gold as an asset rather than an ornament, with genuinely different characteristics.

Physical, ETF and sovereign gold bond compared

• Physical gold | held by you | entry cost is making charge or coin premium | storage cost is locker and insurance | liquidity high but at a dealer spread | earns nothing | can be worn, gifted and pledged locally
• Gold ETF | held in demat, backed by physical gold at the fund | entry cost is brokerage | ongoing cost is the expense ratio | liquidity high through market hours | earns nothing | cannot be worn or gifted as an object
• Sovereign gold bond | held in demat or certificate | no entry premium | no storage cost | liquidity low before maturity | pays a fixed interest rate | tax exempt capital gains at eight year maturity

How to choose. If the gold will be worn or given, buy physical. If the objective is a long term allocation, sovereign gold bonds have historically been the most tax efficient route.

Coins and bars carry minimal making charges, typically a small fraction of what jewellery attracts, making them the most cost efficient way to accumulate gold purely as savings rather than for wear.

Buy only from a jeweller offering tamper evident sealed packaging accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Keep that packaging fully intact until the day you eventually sell or exchange the coin.

Gold futures, traded on exchanges like MCX, are contracts to buy or sell gold at a set price on a future date, used mainly by traders and businesses to hedge price risk rather than by households seeking to hold gold.

Futures contracts carry leverage, magnifying both potential gains and potential losses. Futures are not a substitute for physical gold savings.

A gold loan is secured against jewellery you pledge. A personal loan is unsecured and priced off your credit profile. Both are genuinely available in Azamgarh through banks and NBFCs.

The two compared

• Security | gold loan is secured against pledged jewellery | personal loan is unsecured
• Interest rate | gold loan is materially cheaper | personal loan is dearer
• Approval basis | gold loan depends mainly on the value of the metal | personal loan depends on income proof and credit score, harder to satisfy against remittance income
• Speed | gold loan is often disbursed the same day | personal loan takes longer through credit assessment
• Risk on default | gold loan means losing the pledged jewellery permanently | personal loan means credit damage and recovery action

What to know before pledging

Lenders value gold content only. Stones and craftsmanship count for nothing.

A small share of global gold demand comes from electronics, where its excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance make it valuable in connectors and circuitry, and from dentistry and other industrial applications.

This demand is a minor factor in gold pricing compared with jewellery and investment demand, but it does provide a small structural floor of consumption.

Buying gold attracts three percent GST on the purchase value, including making charges. Selling physical gold held for more than 24 months is taxed as long term capital gains; held for less, it is taxed as short term gains at your income slab rate.

Cash purchases above two lakh rupees legally require PAN details to be recorded by the jeweller.

Capital gains on physical gold are calculated as the sale price minus the purchase price, or minus the indexed cost of acquisition for long term holdings, which adjusts the original cost for inflation and can meaningfully reduce the taxable gain.

Keep your original purchase invoice indefinitely, since it is the only reliable proof of acquisition cost.

Gold ETFs are taxed similarly to physical gold on capital gains. Sovereign gold bonds carry a distinct advantage: capital gains are entirely tax exempt if held to their eight year maturity, though the small annual interest they pay is taxable as regular income.

Azamgarh's gold trade grew alongside its long standing role as a district trading centre in the Purvanchal region, with the main market area developing as the traditional trading heart of the city, a role it continues to play alongside newer showrooms elsewhere.

Demand in Azamgarh runs on wedding season, festival timing around Dhanteras and Diwali, and remittance timing from family members working elsewhere, which together create a demand pattern genuinely distinctive among cities on this site.

Rising gold prices have shifted buying patterns toward lighter, more design forward pieces and a greater share of coins bought as pure savings, rather than a genuine decline in underlying demand.

Rates across Indian cities are set from the same national benchmark and then diverge slightly. On a typical day the spread between major cities is modest, commonly a hundred to a few hundred rupees per 10 grams.

Four things create the local difference

Distance from the importing and refining centres, which adds transport and insurance. Local dealer inventory cost. How hard local demand presses on local supply. And any state level tax, of which Uttar Pradesh has none on gold beyond GST.

Azamgarh draws through Varanasi

Stock arrives via Varanasi, roughly 140 kilometres southeast, the nearest major bullion distribution hub for the Purvanchal region, and Azamgarh tracks that reference closely. For anyone comparing metals rather than cities, today's Azamgarh platinum rate moves on a separate, mostly industrial, set of drivers.

One comparison that misleads

A quote from Karnataka or Tamil Nadu given per pavan rather than the tola used here. A tola is 25 percent heavier than a pavan, and section 50 sets out the full conversion.

What varies far more

The making charge, from around 8 percent to 25, plus whether wastage is separate.

The genuine city to city difference in India rarely exceeds a few hundred rupees per 10 grams on any given day, since all cities reference the same national benchmark.

India imports gold through a small number of RBI authorised nominated banks and agencies, which bring bullion in through major ports and airports, pay applicable customs duty, and distribute it through a wholesale network that eventually reaches city level dealers, including those in Varanasi who in turn supply jewellers across Azamgarh.

An old set that no longer suits current taste is not dead capital. Under the job work route, a jeweller melts and reworks existing gold into a new design, charging only for the making on the new piece rather than the full value of new gold.

Multiply the net gold weight in grams by today's per gram rate for the piece's purity. Add the making charge. Add three percent GST on the combined total. Add any stone value separately, itemised on its own line.
